Forgiving myself frees me up to take in new information without my ego getting in the way. And when presented with new information, if I can listen and hear beyond my limited lens I can then do better. This is yoga.

These daily habits enable more freedom. Freedom to unlock our true potential. Freedom to have the space, time and energy to align to our dharma (our duty or purpose). These daily habits invite resilience. These daily habits invite adaptability. These daily habits invite ease. All of this will set up the container to better discern what can be changed and what we must accept or surrender to in the moment. To live a life on purpose rather than a life that is reacting to the chaos in the environment.

I’ve been sitting with this paradox for awhile. I believe that I am enough. Just as I am. And I also believe that there is so much I have to learn. So many ways that I can do better. Yoga has prepared us for this moment. The path invites us to get uncomfortable and to resource so that we may stay in the mud instead of turning away. Because without the mud, without the shadow work there is no lotus, we cannot see the light.

Cultivating more sustainable joy is the practice of yoga. I don’t mean happiness. I mean joy. Joy is not determined by external circumstances. Joy is a choice. It is an attitude. It is a belief that we are held by something greater than ourselves. Cheers to more joy in 2020.

For me it’s the belief that in the end love always wins. Without it I don’t know if I could continue to move forward in a world where there is so much suffering. It’s similar to hope. But, faith brings us into the present moment and asks us to surrender...right here, right now. I believe that a spiritual practice is mandatory for personal evolution. And it is necessary for any movement of social change to be sustainable.

Sometimes it can feel like there is nothing we can do to make our life better. Life can feel overwhelming. There is loss. There is pain. There is adversity. And there is hope. This year empower yourself to believe that you have a choice and then choose hope. As challenges arise see them as an opportunity to grow. Break it down into small, actionable steps. Take the next step. Just one step. Then do that again tomorrow.
